In an interview with The Des Moines Register, President Obama predicted that he would quickly reach a bipartisan deal on immigration reform and deficit reduction if he were to win a second term in office. Obama's bold assertion came in what was meant to be an off-the-record interview, but which was later released after the Iowa paper protested publicly. On immigration, Obama said the GOP would realize the need to compromise because a good chunk of the support for his campaign has come from Latinos who have been "alienated" by Republicans. As for the budget, Obama said he was confident that he could reach a "grand bargain" with the GOP that would cut about $4 trillion from the deficit.
